To mark the spirited occasion of World Cocktail Day on May 13, Diageo World Class revealed a list of the world’s eight most popular cocktails. Hint: They’re all timeless classics.
Diageo World Class surveyed bartenders from Puerto Rico, Portugal, Greece, Norway, Iceland, UAE, Beirut, USA, Canada, Hong Kong and the Philippines to identify and categorise popular mixed-drinks as ordered by millennial bar-hoppers.
Diageo World Class was established in 2009. It hosts training and advocacy programmes for bartenders across 60 countries. It also organises the World Class Bartender of the Year competition.
The generation-that-has-it-all’s top picks are:
1. Old Fashioned
3. Whisky Sour
4. Moscow Mule
5. Espresso Martini
6. Dry Martini
7. Tom Collins
“We surveyed the world’s best bartenders from the four corners of the globe and it is incredible to see the renaissance of these important and timeless cocktails picking up pace everywhere,” says global cocktailian Lauren Mote.
The survey also reveals that sales of spirits including gin and whisky are on the rise. World Class Bartender of the Year 2017 Kaitlyn Stewart says that this is because consumers no longer looking at cocktails as an afterthought.
